Last night I got to do something I really enjoyed.
Greg Douglas (the Hollywood WP Meetup Group organizer) and I hosted a Freelancers Support Night at the Hollywood Meetup Group.
Greg and I, who have both been freelancing successfully for many years now, gave our advice on everything from time management, to contracts, to what rates you should be charging.
Plus, we opened up the floor for any questions and welcomed advice from any of the attendees.
The whole idea for a Freelancer support night stemmed from something Greg and I were noticing in the WordPress community.
Primarily, many freelancers working insanely long hours, finding themselves incredibly stressed and many times depressed, and yet still barely just getting by.
By providing a support night, we could help freelancers do better work, get paid what they deserve, and overall, feel better.
And of course, Greg, who is a voracious reader, shared some of the best books we need to read:
- The Dip by Seth Godin
- 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
- Choose Yourself by James Altucher
- The Six Pillars of Self Esteem by Nathaniel Branden
- The Power of Now by Eckhardt Tolle
And of course, the book I’m currently reading:
I think it was a success…just check out the selfie I took!
Check out the Hollywood WordPress website for when they post the video from the talk:
