Not only is it hard to manage images with the Media Library, but there is no elegant way to display them.
Unless we use an image gallery.
In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a WordPress gallery that looks amazing and showcases your images. And, it will be easy for your visitors to navigate.
Steps to Creating An Image Gallery in WordPress
Here is a written, step-by-step guide to creating a WordPress gallery.
1. Install NextGEN Gallery
We will be using NextGEN Gallery, one of the best image gallery plugins for WordPress.
It will allow us to upload, manage, and display our images in beautiful galleries.

2. Create New Gallery and Upload Images
In the drop down, select “Add Gallery/Images”.
In the field next to “Create a new gallery”, enter in a gallery name.
You can now upload images by clicking “Add Files” and selecting your images. Or, you can drag and drop them into the onscreen box.
Once you’d added all images, click “Start Upload”.
It will take a few moments to finish the upload. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.
3. Add Gallery to Page or Post
Navigate to the page or post you’d like to edit.
In the visual editor, you’ll see a new, green icon in the toolbar. This button allows you to add galleries to your content.
Place your cursor where you’d like to insert the gallery and then click this green button.
A pop-up will appear with the settings for your gallery.
First select a display type. Click Here to read about the different NextGEN Gallery types.
Once you’ve selected a display type, click the “What Would You Like to Display” tab. In the “Sources” drop down, select Galleries. Next, click the “Galleries” field and select the gallery you created in Step 2.
There are two more tabs. The first lets you can customize your display settings. The second lets you sort/exclude certain images from your gallery.
Finally, click save.
An image placeholder will be inserted where the gallery will display.
Your Gallery Is Now Live
Once you click update, you’ll see that your gallery is now live on your page or post.
If you want to make edits to your gallery settings, simply go back to edit your page or post and click on the image placeholder.
The NextGEN Gallery settings pop-up will appear again.
